Abstract:AI tools like ChatGPT are increasingly becoming external assistants in human information processing, taking over a wide range of repetitive or lower-level cognitive tasks. We argue that the widespread adoption of such tools represents not merely a technological shift, but a profound transformation in human cognitive patterns. With the support of AI, individuals can "outsource" certain basic and mechanical cognitive operations, thereby freeing up more cognitive resources for higher-level thinking that is creative and strategic. This redistribution of cognitive structure does not imply a weakening of ability; on the contrary, it may enhance overall cognitive efficiency and flexibility.
