Abstract:This study investigates the attitudes toward fertility and childbearing among Chinese university students (18~30 years old). Utilizing a latent profile analysis (LPA) technique, this study reveals three latent profiles based on participants’ attitudes toward gender roles, Big Five personality traits, and life satisfaction. Results show that female college students’ attitudes towards fertility are significantly shaped by their views on gender roles, whereas male students are more influenced by their personality traits and overall life satisfaction. Individuals with more rigid personality traits tend to hold more negative attitudes toward fertility and childbearing. These results highlight the value of LPA in uncovering diverse attitudes towards fertility and childbearing among college students and broadening the scope of research in reproductive psychology. The study offers theoretical and practical insights into the psychological factors underlying reproductive decision-making.
