Development and Psychometric Evaluation of the Fertility Desire-Plan-Action Scale (FDPAS)

Abstract：Individual fertility decision-making is dynamic. To measure it accurately, this study proposes a fertility behavior development stage theory based on the TDIB (Traits-Desire-Intention-Behavior) model—comprising the fertility desire stage (including positive and negative fertility desires), fertility plan stage, and fertility action stage—and develops the Fertility Desire-Plan-Action Scale (FDPAS). Preliminary psychometric testing on 1,166 young adults of childbearing age shows FDPAS has 19 items (11 for desire, 4 each for plan/action). The scale and its subscales have high internal consistency, good construct/discriminant/criterion-related validity, and gender measurement invariance.
