Abstract:This study explored algorithm aversion in AI creation from a new perspective of perceived naturalness and conducted three experiments. In the first experiment, it was found that when paintings were labeled as AI-generated, they received significantly lower ratings compared to those labeled as human-created, confirming the existence of algorithm aversion. The second experiment further revealed that perceived naturalness mediated the relationship between the creator and preference. The third experiment discovered that anthropomorphism could enhance the perceived naturalness of AI, thus alleviating algorithm aversion to some extent. Together, our findings help understand the underlying mechanisms of algorithm aversion and provide the corresponding intervention scheme.
