| The Influence of Self and Other-Focused Attention on Children's Perspective-Taking |

Abstract Perspective-taking is a fundamental prerequisite for children's socialization, which requires individuals to simultaneously process information from both their own and others, and to distinguish between the two. The tendency to focus on self-related or other-related information can influence children’ performance on perspective-taking tasks. This study systematically explored the impact of self/other-related information on perspective-taking during its rapid developmental period. Participants in this study were children aged from four to six years old. In this study, we employed a puzzle task to prime children’s tendency to focusing on self or other-related information, and then measured participants’ performance on visual perspective-taking tasks and false belief tasks. The findings reveal that focusing on self-related information increases egocentric tendencies in children, while focusing on others reduces egocentric tendencies but does not improve accuracy. Moreover, this influence gradually becomes more evident across visual perspective-taking, false belief inference and so on as children age.
