Abstract:In recent years, the proliferation of personalized childbirth experience sharing on social media has attracted considerable attention from female users and influence their fertility intentions. This study explores how childbirth experience sharing on social media affects women’s fertility intentions, focusing on two psychological mechanisms: self-objectification and emotional contagion. Results showed that although objectifying childbirth content significantly increased women’s self-objectification, it did not reduce their fertility intentions. In contrast, emotional valence influenced fertility intentions through emotional contagion, with emotional state mediating this relationship. Furthermore, empathy moderated this emotional contagion pathway, with highly empathic women being more strongly affected. These findings highlight emotional contagion as the key mechanism shaping fertility intentions in social media contexts.
