Abstract:Based on self-determination theory, this study explores the relationship between perceived upward social mobility and prosocial tendency, as well as its underlying mechanisms. Using questionnaire surveys and experimental studies, it was found that, after controlling for subjective social class and social mobility beliefs, perceived upward social mobility significantly and positively predicted prosocial tendency. Status-seeking motivation and communal relationship orientation played a chain mediation role in this relationship. This study reveals the specific role and underlying mechanisms of perceived upward social mobility in promoting prosocial tendency, deepening the theoretical discussion on the relationship between class mobility and prosocial tendency.
