The Impact of Classroom Lighting on Student Performance: A Literature Review

Lightingis one of the most important environmental factors in classrooms. Lighting has a significant impact not only on students’ vision health but also on their study performance. A total of 52 papers in the literature since 2000were selected and reviewedinthe current literature review. We focus on reviewing the progress of research paradigms, theoretical frameworks, and experimental design methods in the literature. The research paradigm has shifted to context-based lighting configurations customized for different classroom activities. Research knowledge accumulated in the literature and ongoing research questions are summarized. Based on the literature review, we have identified major suggestions for future studies, including the use of objective student performance scores instead of subjective surveys, studying the optimization of lighting configurations for different student populations, increasing sample size, and exploring machine learning methods.

Cognitive Differences between Sojourned and Multi-ethnic Cohabitated Han-Tibetan Bicultural Individuals

This paper comparedthe sojourned with multi-ethnic cohabitated Han-Tibetan bicultural individuals on their cultural-ethnic cognition and cultural frame switching. The results showed that: 1) The sojournedTibetan bicultural individuals had higher scores in ethnic essentialism than the cohabitated ones; and for both Tibetans and Han bicultural individuals, the cohabitatedones achieved higher level of bicultural identity integration than the sojourned ones. 2) When primedwith cultural cues, different from the sojourned bicultural individuals, the cohabited ones did not show the effect of cultural frame switching. These results indicate that the sojournedand cohabitated bicultural individuals may have variedmental representation and experience organization patterns of the second culture.

The Relationship between Nostalgia and Pro-Social Behavior of College Students: The Mediating Role of Meaning in Life

The present research aimed to explore the relation between nostalgia and pro-social behavior, as well as the psychological mechanism.The present study combined a questionnaire survey ( study 1) and an experimental design(study 2) to investigate the effect of nostalgia on Chinese college students’ pro-social behavior, and also examine the mediating role of meaning in life. A sample of Three hundred college students from three universities of different provinces participated in study 1. They were asked to complete a questionnaire containing nostalgia scale, meaning in life scale and pro-social behavior scale. The results indicated that:(1) Nostalgia positively predicted college students’ pro-social behavior. (2) Meaning in life mediated the positive relationship between nostalgia and pro-social behavior, the proportion of the mediating effect was 31.52%. Being a questionnaire survey of self report, study 1 cannot support a causal inference among these variables. Conclusion was drawn that nostalgia may increase directly pro-social behaviour, and still increase pro-social behaviour through meaning in life. Finally, the theoretical and practical implications, as well as the limitations of the present study and the directions of future research were discussed.

The Role of Deliberative Process in Foreign Language Effect of Moral Judgment

The current study recruited participants with Chinese as a native language and English as a foreign language and used the process dissociation procedure to explore whether and how deliberative process contributes to the moral foreign language effect. It was found that: (1) participants were more willing to accept the action of causing harm for maximizing overall outcomes (i.e., utilitarian action in which harming others is acceptable if it increases the well-being of a greater number of people) when using a foreign language than when using their native language, showing a clear foreign language effect in moral decision. (2) Compared with using a native language, using a foreign language to make a moral judgement increased the contribution of deliberative process (i.e., the utilitarian inclination), and meanwhile decreased the contribution of intuitive process (i.e., the deontological inclination in which harming others is wrong regardless of its consequences). Therefore, the current study indicated that both the decreased intuitive process and the increased deliberative process can account for the foreign language effect in moral decision.

Which one determine your global self-esteem? physical attractiveness or personality character: gender matters.

The global self-esteem is developed by external physical appearance and internal psychological character, there are gender differences in the effect. Because of the emphasized man’s achievements and successes, the personality character from which the achievements and successes benefit more than physical appearance is more important to man. However, female is more susceptible to information about physical attractiveness. The weight-em-by-importance model suggests that the self-evaluation in a perceived important field can make remarkable fluctuation on the self-esteem. The purpose of the study was to investigate the gender differences in prediction of self-esteem by external appearance and internal character. A total of 180 participants (90 females and 90 males) were included in the study. The average age for the participants was 21.87 years (SD = 2.77). Researchers randomly selected participants to answer the questionnaires at the library. Firstly, participants were asked to judge the extent how the 40 words (20 appearance/20 character) describe themselves by using 5-point scale (1=not at all like me, 5=very much like me). And then Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSES) was used to assess participants’ global self-esteem. The results showed that man’s self-esteem was more affected by personality character than physical appearance, but only thephysical appearanceself-evaluation showed a significant correlation with woman’s self-esteem. Interestingly, the present study also found that the woman’s appearance self-evaluation moderated the relationship between character self-evaluation and the self-esteem, woman’s internal character could predict their self-esteem positively only when the woman evaluated their appearance highly. The findings of the current study provided evidences to support the hypothesis that character self-evaluation, compared with appearance self-evaluation, could predict the man’s self-esteem better; while the appearance self-evaluation could make a larger influence on the woman’s self-esteem compared to the character self-evaluation.

The response patterns of depressive individuals under unfair gain / loss situation

The present study aimed to investigate the response patterns of depressive individuals to unfair distribution in the gain and loss situations. The results showed that (1) the rejection rates of both depressive and non-depressive individuals have been significantly improved with the increasing of the level of unfairness; while, the rejection rates of all participants were greater in the loss situation than in the gain situation. (2) Furthermore, compared with non-depressive individuals, the depressive individuals had a greater rejection rate in the gain situation, but such effect was not present in the loss situation. These results indicated that, though the context modulates how both depressive and non-depressive individuals respond to the unfair distribution, the depressive individuals showed higher sensitivity to unfair distribution than non-depressive individuals in the gain situation. The present study is very helpful to understand the interpersonal avoidance and alienation behavior of depressive people in real life.

Team Delegation Degree and Team Members' Collective Turnover Intention: the Mediating Role of Affective Commitment

On the basis of theoretical research, this paper constructs a conceptual relationship model between the team delegation degree and the members’ collective turnover intention with the affective commitment to organization and the affective commitment to supervisor as mediators, and conducts empirical research using multilevel survey data. The results of the study show that the increase of the team delegation degree will promote the members’ collective turnover intention. The affective commitment to supervisor will play a full intermediary role in the relationship between the team delegation degree and the members’ collective turnover intention. The team delegation degree does not affect the affective commitment to organization, but the affective commitment to organization will reduce the members’ collective turnover intention significantly.

A Model of Passenger Satisfaction ofTailored Car-Sharing Service

Based on the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI)Model, this paper constructed the passenger satisfaction model of tailored car-sharing service and verified the model empirically by summarizing the features of tailored car-sharing service. The model consisted of six variables: passenger expectation, perceived quality, perceived benefit, perceived risk, passenger satisfaction, passenger complaints and passenger loyalty. To verify the model, 267passengers who have used the service participated a questionnaire survey. The result showed that the model was feasible.The findings of this study were beneficial to consummate the theory of passenger satisfaction, provide a guide for managers when planning to improve passenger satisfaction, and as a result, help to develop the enterprises within the industry.

Fusion Models of Generalizability Theory and Item Response

Generalizability Theory(GT) and Item Response Theory(IRT) are two main modern measurement theories and widely applied in psychological measurement and evaluation. However, both theories have advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, GT and IRT should be integrated by means of adhesion or fusion. Comparing to the adhesion, the fusion can produce a new model, which can make two theories towards one unity and complement each other and have a strong advantage. This paper showed five fusion models of GT and IRT such as Multivariate Modeling approach (MM), Hierarchical Rater Model (HRM), Generalizability in Item Response Modeling (GIRM), GIRM for Testlet(GIRMT) and some other fusion models. Some proposals about these fusion models were put forward by this paper.
